2017 Elmtree Season - An Important Discussion

TO ALL ELMTREE MEMBERS: PLEASE ADD YOUR INPUT!!!

Fellow Members, 2017 brings with it many challenges facing our club this year.  There is a new sheriff in town running the golf course. He is
PGA PROFESSIONAL MARTY VYHIBAL.

Marty has replaced Nick and Pat and has been tasked with getting the golf course 'house', both Operationally and Fiscally, in order.
To that end, there are going to be new faces, changes made and rules enforced.

Tom L is an acquaintance of Marty's and spoke with him last Saturday. Ken (and I?) will call Marty in the next few days and have a talk as it relates to Elmtree.

So far, Here is what we believe is going to happen:
1) Each player will need to renew his own card AND show proper ID. This means some of you will have to pay the Out-of-County renewal rate. I believe this is currently $150 vs. $60. (Greens fees are $5??? higher)
The course is well aware of the number of Out of County members and is not going to penalize anyone for their past status.
2) Each member will, at least in the beginning, have to purchase their own greens fee ticket with their own card. We should be able to revert back to our normal way of Ken buying all the tickets once the season progresses.
3) It has been mentioned to us that if Elmtree reserves 3 lines than we are responsible for 12 greens fees. Tom believes that we can work it out that if we say we have 9 players, we pay for the 9 players. This may result in an early deadline to guarantee a spot on Sundays. Late decisions to play may not be able to be honored.
4) To cover any required minimum # of players that MIGHT arise with a late cancellation or no-show, The Executive Board believes the annual dues should include 1 weeks' Greens Fees Fund which would be used or returned at the end of the season. A player would have to immediately replenish the fund if it is utilized during the season.

NOTE: The Greens Fees have not increased in 2017 and the cart fee may have dropped a $1

A suggestion has been made, due to the lower turnouts, to eliminate the team format for single action. Maybe $2-2-2 and $4 for pins $2 gratuity and $1 for club. I think this would make it $55/week, $60 for out of county, and $50 for Seniors each week. (plus cart$).  Maybe certain weeks during the season we can use this format as kind of a $value$ round.

Please digest this information and give your thoughts. (Like: I will NOT return if I have to pay Out of County(OOC) OR I will pay OOC rates and fees). (I will NOT play if the format changes, etc)

THIS IS YOUR CLUB, PARTICIPATE!

The Annual Meeting will take place late February/early March.
ALSO: Nominations are OPEN for 2017 CLUB OFFICERS.

Yours in golf,
El Presidente

Re: 2017 Elmtree Season - An Important Discussion

Well doesn't that just suck? I guess the party is over. I don't know Marty but I know he's a member in the winter league I play in.

I like Elmtree so I will likely remain in on some level. It may be on a slightly more limited basis however. Once I see the 2017 rates, I'll decide if I will go with a card or not. Looking at the old rates, it was $18 more to play on Sunday with no card than the out of county card rate ($65 vs $47). If those rates stay the same and if the out of county card costs $150, then it will take over 8 rounds to break even. So my decision will be to either buy the card and play more than 8 times or not buy it and travel up less often.

On limiting the team action, I definitely don't care one way or the other. I sort of liked the random team thing but I would be fine if people want to cut a couple bucks and remove it.

I am going to suggest we might want to revisit the rounds required for Tournaments too. And maybe just go with two tournaments - an early season and season ending (the last being the Sean tournament)? Things to discuss over pizza.

See you all next month!

Alex

Re: 2017 Elmtree Season - An Important Discussion

I'm in county so I'm not that affected.  I have no preference for team vs. individual.  So I plan to continue with my inconsistent and limited participation for 2017 regardless of what the group decides.

Re: 2017 Elmtree Season - An Important Discussion

I'm in county too, but if out of county rates impact attendance then we should find a way to minimize out of county cost or else it could impact all.

Think we should keep team play, it's the foundation that keeps out sandbaggers and I don't have time for the range.

Maybe up the vig a little and start off on the right foot.

Re: 2017 Elmtree Season - An Important Discussion

Maybe, we could all renew our licenses using Keith or Robert's address. I definitely would like to keep the team action. the only fun when you play badly is being able to ruin someone else's day; like Randy. I will definitely play whenever I am up there and I am the most out of county player in the club. I think the early cutoff is a good idea. When would the county want us to commit? Is it now for the whole season? Or can we commit each week and if so by what day? Clearly there are some weeks that few will play like Mother's Day, Easter and some other hoidays.

Re: 2017 Elmtree Season - An Important Discussion

I will reach out to Marty soon.  Regarding the action, I am fine with how it is currently, but I will go with the masses.  If we wanted to move it in some way, we could make it this...   3/3/3 per side teams, and 1/1/1 per side individual action = $12 and then add $3 to the club per week making the action $15 per week.  Then we can move the tournaments to two, mid year and end of year.  That being said, as it now stands that we have to pay individually, then no tips are  needed.  Which means that all players will have to be in by a specific time to pay their greens fees, make teams, and get out to the course.  Baby chops and choppettes are in trouble, so is Randy, so is Chris $, etc.....

I was there last week playing and already renewed my out of county pass.  Whatever format the club decides will be fine with me.

Re: 2017 Elmtree Season - An Important Discussion

I am a county resident so there is minimal affect on me.  As far as the games go, I am good with whatever the majority agrees to.

Re: 2017 Elmtree Season - An Important Discussion

I am like Keith in that I am good for coming back in 2017 with my usual limited availability.  Whatever the group decides with regard to format is fine with me.  I like the team thing but individual would work as well.  Play both in my other league and they both are fun.  Whatever the cost is, it is.  Just tell me when I get there on Sunday morning.  See you all on the links if I don't make the Pizza Party!!!

Re: 2017 Elmtree Season - An Important Discussion

I'm in county, so minimal change for me. I like the team action but will go with majority vote. Think cut off should be Thursday evening. Most people know weekend plans by then. Just a thought. Will renew county card soon. Look forward to seeing everyone soon.

Re: 2017 Elmtree Season - An Important Discussion

Ken has spoken with Marty. (It turns out Ken and Marty know each other)
It was a very good discussion.  Ken has secured Elmtree 3 lines each week. We do not know how many days in advance we have to give a final count yet. Also if we do need a 4th line then that can be arranged.
Marty is planning some exciting new things for the course including a Mens Club and will also hold special outings/tournaments like a Chili Open in April.
I am optimistic for an exciting season.

We are looking to hold our annual meeting in the next 2 weeks. Look for the post announcing the date and time.
